Pesta Orang Kampung in Sibu Sarawak

We were in Sibu, Sarawak last week, from the 5th to the 9th of January, to be exact. I thought it was about time to bring my wife and kids to visit my birthplace, meet my grandmother, and reunite with the rest of my family in Sibu.

So we arrived in Sibu, and my mother, who had already been there a month earlier, suggested that we go to Pesta Orang Kampung. We were glad we went. It was vibrant and colourful, with so many vendors, and we were spoiled for choice.

Pesta Orang Kampung is dubbed as the largest food festival in Sarawak. In addition to various food and beverage vendors, there are also stalls offering local goods and handicrafts. Based on their Facebook page, can we safely assume that this event is held monthly, but at different locations across the state of Sarawak.

Among the interesting activities held were local sports competitions, cultural art performances, and music shows by popular local artists. Meanwhile, there were also various games or playgrounds for children, making this festival suitable for the whole family.

We arrived at the festival around 3 PM. We stayed for an hour or two, and it was hot. We planned to revisit at night. Unfortunately, we didn’t. Our Ezra got a little sick, so we stayed home.

These are all the pictures I managed to take. I wish I could have taken more. It was fun. Now that we’re back in KL, we’re missing Sibu and all that the place has to offer. Can’t wait to be back in Sibu. More pictures and Reels on our Instagram.
