Suak Saudagar in Lenggong

Revisited Suak Saudagar in Lenggong on December 26, 2023. This would be our second visit with a camera. Our first visit was about a year or so ago, before Ezra was born.

Lenggong is a beautiful place, often described as a hidden gem. We agree, and we prefer for this place to remain hidden. I believe that’s why Lenggong is what it is now: clean, unpolluted, and peaceful, away from the potential consequences of over-tourism.

Lenggong was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 30, 2012, based on two criteria, specifically criteria (iii) and (iv), which state:

  • to bear a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition or to a civilization which is living or which has disappeared;
  • to be an outstanding example of a type of building, architectural or technological ensemble or landscape which illustrates significant stage(s) in human history.

This designation is well-deserved. We wrote an article about Suak Saudagar and Lenggong in general during our first visit, discussing why Lenggong is unique and what makes this place special.

Lenggong is also recognised as a Geopark, Lenggong Geopark, since 2021, becoming the second Geopark in Perak after Kinta Geopark.

A Geopark is a concept for developing and managing geological, biological, cultural, and historical heritage resources sustainably and holistically, based on a co-management approach.

The geopark concept was first developed in the early 2000s by movements in Europe, China, and Malaysia. More about what a Geopark is can be found here.

Thank you for reading. We ordered laksa and delicious hot lattes at Suak Saudagar. Coffees were delicious and their laksa was simply amazing!

Make sure to visit Lenggong and Suak Saudagar if you’re anywhere near Ipoh or Kuala Kangsar. There are also many other interesting places nearby. More pictures on our Instagram.
