This was last year, in 2022. We decided to go to Taiping to celebrate Merdeka. Not a Merdeka countdown celebration per se, but a simple family outing. We went to eat pasembur and cendol, and afterwards, we visited Zoo Taiping and spent some quality time at Taiping Lake Gardens. Not forgetting, we also visited Kopi Satu Satu Sembilan & Titik Santap.
I’ve said this several times, Taiping is such a beautiful town. In the words of the late Rehman Rashid in his seminal memoir, A Malaysian Journey, “Taiping was a sweet place to live, and anyone who didn’t think so was free to live elsewhere. Taiping was still the Pensioner’s Paradise; the Nicest Hometown in Malaysia.”
