Meet Fathiha, the creative force behind Tijoe Studio. You might remember Lorong Karat Muo from our previous blog post, and that’s where we discovered Tijoe Studio.
Thrilled to find that we could participate in batik activities right here in Muar. Our son, Ashraf, has always enjoyed batik painting kits, so this was the perfect discovery for us.
Tijoe offers a variety of creative experiences. At Lorong Karat Muo, for example, you can enjoy DIY Batik painting, with options to paint on a round frame or a tote bag.
Tijoe also offers DIY acrylic pour painting keychains, perfect for creating personalised accessories. You’ll also find batik pouches, handmade trinket trays, and, soon, a DIY trinket tray painting experience.
We had a quick chat with Fathiha at Lorong Karat Muo the other day to learn more about the origins of Tijoe Studio. Here’s her story, edited for length and clarity:
“Growing up, I was a talkative child, and my aunt and uncle playfully nicknamed me Joy, or Joyah. Initially, I didn’t like it—I thought they were teasing me. But then someone said, ‘Joy is a good thing—you bring joy to people!’ That changed everything for me. I embraced the nickname because it reflected something I wanted to do: bring joy to others.
Over time, the nickname Tijoe (Aunty Joy) stuck, and I grew to love it. It became more than just a name—it was a reminder of my mission to spread happiness wherever I go. So, when it was time to start my workshop, I knew Tijoe would be the perfect name for my brand. Tijoe Studio is all about creating meaningful connections and sharing joy through creativity.
After moving back to Muar, I noticed a lack of creative spaces for people to gather—it was honestly a bit boring! I often told my family and friends that one day, I would open a studio where creative people, families, and friends could come together and have fun.”
Fathiha’s short-term plan focuses on improving her production strategy. She has been pleasantly surprised by the strong demand for her products, which has encouraged her to produce more batik.
Looking ahead, Fathiha envisions setting up her own studio, where she can offer various artistic experiences. She aims to host more workshops and collaborate with skilled artisans, focusing on mediums such as pottery, tufting, and embroidery.
