Visited Batu Caves for Thaipusam for the first time. I took the train from MRT Kampung Selamat to MRT Kampung Batu. Then switched to KTM and stopped at Batu Caves. I was there from around 9 AM to 11 AM and managed to take some pictures too.

Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated by Malaysia’s Tamil community to honour Lord Murugan. The god of war and victory. It takes place during the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January or February). Weeks of preparation, including fasting and prayer, lead up to the event.

Batu Caves serves as the festival’s main venue. Each year the place attracts over a million devotees and tourists. The festival features chanting, drumming, and colourful traditional attire.

A key highlight is the carrying of kavadis as acts of devotion. These are intricately decorated structures bearing images of several deities, including Lord Murugan.

Some devotees pierce their bodies with hooks and skewers, symbolising the triumph of good over evil and their surrender to divine will. Others carry milk pots as offerings. Thank you for reading. Learn more about Thaipusam in Malaysia here. Reels and more pictures on Instagram.
