Raya in Muar

I’m writing this blog on the third day of raya. 2 April 2025. We went back to Muar for this year’s raya. Departed on Saturday, 29 March at 4 am and arrived around 7 to 8 am. Traffic was okay. Smooth most of the way.

That evening, we went to bazar ramadan at Jubli Intan. Located right in front of Wetex near the roundabout. Lots of vendors and so much food to choose from. We liked everything we bought.

At night, we went to Uptown Muar to see what’s what. It was packed. Lively. Vendors with microphones promoting their stuff. So many baju melayu and baju kurung were on sale at half price. My wife ended up buying a few carpets for her mum’s kitchen. I think that night was the busiest I had ever seen Muar.

The next day was Sunday. The last day of ramadan. We stayed home and gave the house one final cleaning for raya. My mother-in-law was in the kitchen most of the time cooking rendang and other raya dishes. My wife and I sat on the floor, weaving and filling some ketupat with rice. Later, we played some mercun with Ashraf. It was a tiring day. We went to bed at 3 am.

Finally, raya. Monday, 31 March 2025. We went to Tanjung Emas for the obligatory raya photos. It’s getting harder to take family photos these days. Forgot we still have a baby. As the weather got hotter and hotter, we decided to wrap up and go to Bean & Bed instead. For coffee and cakes and we’re glad we did that.
