Festival Kraf Persona Tekstil (2024)

Festival Kraf Persona Tekstil. This event celebrates Hari Batik Malaysia. I was here just a few hours ago. 28 November 2024 at about 1:30 PM. And I always enjoy craft festivals like this. They’re great for meeting people and discovering their art. This time, I learned about Batik Linut. Sarawak’s first locally made batik.

Batik Linut was created by Lamin Dana in partnership with the Batik Community Corporation in Sarawak. This batik uses a mix of scratching techniques and screen printing to form patterns on fabric. With sago flour. Instead of candle wax, linut is used as the resist medium.

What makes this textile unique is linut. A type of sago made from the sago palm. A plant closely linked to Mukah and the Melanau community. Linut replaces wax by blocking water or dye from soaking into the fabric. Interesting. Come and see Batik Linut at Persona Tekstil.

By chance, I also met Dza Batik, who was our neighbour at Syok Fest a few months ago. They have a booth there. It was lovely to see them again. If you’re free, drop by Kompleks Kraf KL. Persona Tekstil is running from 28 November to 8 December 2024. 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. More pictures on Instagram and Facebook.

The following write-up and pictures were added today, Sunday, 1 December 2024, after our second visit to Kompleks Kraf. So, here they are.

Revisited Kompleks Kraf for their Persona Tekstil event today. Sunday, 1 December 2024 at the time writing. This time, I brought my wife and kids along. Our second visit felt even more worthwhile.

Because there were live demonstrations, and we arrived just in time to see them. Our son, Ashraf, even had the chance to try Batik Tanah Liat. I managed to take some pictures of the demonstrations too.

If you’re wondering about food and where to eat, there are food trucks outside. We highly recommend that you try Char Kuey Teow there and that Mango Susu. Superb.

There’s also a food court at Kompleks Kraf with a decent variety of choices. Thank you for reading that’s all for now. Drop by Kompleks Kraf KL. Persona Tekstil is running from 28 November to 8 December 2024. More pictures on Instagram.
