Visited Muzium Telekom the other day. It was my first visit. Did you notice there were not many cars in the pictures? That’s because it was Deepavali.
Muzium Telekom was originally built in 1928. It wasn’t a museum back then, but an office for manual telephone exchange. In the early 1980s, the building became a storage site for telephone equipment in Kuala Lumpur.
It was Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad who suggested that this building be preserved and turned into national heritage. A museum. Telecommunications Museum.
The building features unique Neoclassical architecture. Eight grand columns stand at one of its entrances. Inside, there are displays, artefacts, and replicas that show how telecommunications in Malaysia evolved from the beginning.
The entrance fee for adults is RM6, and they only accept online payments like QR codes. I’m not sure about parking. I came by train. The nearest LRT station is Masjid Jamek. Pictures taken on 31 Oct 2024 at about 11:53 AM. More pictures on Instagram.
