Jambatan Kampung Jawa is a pedestrian bridge that connects Kampung Pantai to Kampung Jawa. It is a popular tourist destination, offering stunning views of the Melaka River and the surrounding cityscape.
Whenever we are in Melaka, we make sure to cross this bridge. We usually park our car at the nearby temple and start walking. We personally feel that the best way to experience these historic areas is on foot.
Both Kampung Pantai and Kampung Jawa offer their own unique attractions, such as coffee shops, museums, Jonker Street Night Market, restaurants, and more. All within the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Lorong Jambatan has always been our favourite spot to hang out. There is a great breakfast shop there, and in the evening, there is Kafe Tuju. Kafe Tuju has since been relocated right across the bridge. Not forgetting, there’s LEJu 8 樂居.
Need recommendations on coffee shops in that area? Start with these: Kafe Tuju, Coffeebar125+, Ikan Emas coffee and The Daily Fix Coffee Roaster.
We have been to Melaka many times and have taken many pictures, but we have not written many articles about it on our blog. Partly because there are so many interesting things to write about and we don’t know where to start. Perhaps this article is a start.
One interesting story about Jambatan Kampung Jawa is that the locals call it the Ghost Bridge or Jambatan Berhantu.
This is because the Kempeitai (Japanese military police) beheaded all local residents who opposed the Japanese military at the bridge during the Japanese occupation.
The severed heads were then hung and displayed on the pillars of this bridge, while the bodies were thrown into the Melaka River.
The first few pictures at the start of this article were taken recently. Latest pictures typically have our newborn Ezra in it. The rest were taken last year or two years ago. Thank you for reading. Here’s the Google Maps link to Jambatan Kampung Jawa.
