We’ve been following FRIENDS Craft Cooperative on Instagram for quite some time and absolutely love what they’re doing. FRIENDS is a non-profit, worker-owned cooperative that builds high-quality home goods.
They offer these items at fair prices while ensuring their artisans earn fair wages. You can browse some of the items online here. According to FRIENDS, every piece of their furniture is carefully constructed using traditional joinery without nails.
No mass production here. Each piece is made by skilled artisans. And every artisan at FRIENDS has a voice in the cooperative, with voting rights and a fair share of profits decided democratically.
Through this approach, FRIENDS aims to build a more equitable and skilled society, striving to become a model for worker-centred economic systems.
FRIENDS promotes open access to knowledge and skills. You can join their programs, from Recreational Membership and Apprenticeship to Member Orientation & Events. Visit friendscraftcoop.com to learn more.
Took these photos earlier today. 24 November 2024, at the time of writing. Thank you, Chern, Jamie and Dev for having us. Also, we’re excited to announce that our soon-to-open shop in Muar will carry some of their products!
