Located in a quiet and leafy area of Bukit Chandan, Baitul Anor is a historic building that is a relic of a bygone era. It was once a house belonging to Raja Kechil Sulong Harun Al Rashid, the prince of Perak.
He had it built for his third wife, Raja Mentera binti Raja Sir Chulan. Tuan Haji Sofian, a well-known craftsman and builder of the time, built the house.
This was our second visit with the camera. I took some pictures on our first visit but not that many. I posted pictures from our first visit here.
Our second visit was yesterday, on the third day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, April 25, 2023 to be exact. There isn’t much I can write about Baitul Anor.
There weren’t any books I could refer to. Nor journals. Most of the info I got was from this blog called sembangkuala.
I’ve decided to write about it here because I was saddened but also fascinated by it. Saddened because the house was still in disrepair, just like it was on our first visit. Maybe even worse.
Fascinated because the fact that this house was once a mansion belonging to a prince of Perak is simply fascinating to me.
Can’t the state government do anything about it? I see great potential for this place to become a tourist attraction. Maybe they could convert this house into a museum.
