Yet another food synonymous with Muar. Apam Balik Bulat, or simply Apam Balik Dorayaki. I suspect the term Dorayaki became popular around the time the cartoon Doraemon began airing in Malaysia in 1988. Just my guess. I could be wrong.

My wife, a Muarian, introduced our son Ashraf and me to this Apam Balik Bulat. She mentioned she’s been eating it since she was little. So, we were curious to try it.

Several vendors in Muar sell this Apam Balik Bulat, and any Muarian can tell you where to find the best one. The one at Terminal Bentayan Muar is also pretty good.

For this article, however, we chose a particular vendor. Apam Balik Muar Dorayaki, Ucop Tok Ngah, Keluarga Hussein. My son has taken a liking to their version of Apam Balik Bulat. So they’ve become our go-to. Plus, their cart is conveniently located right outside our favourite coffee shop, Teduh.

Founded in the 1940s by Haji Hussein (the great-grandfather), the business was later passed down to his son, Mr. Halim (grandfather), then to Mr. Yusof (father), and is now managed by Mr. Amirul, Mr. Yusof’s son, representing the fourth generation in the family business.

A must-visit if you’re in Muar! They’re located at Jalan Abdullah, Pekan Muar, 84000, Muar, Johor. You can find the shop on Google Maps, and their contact number is listed there as well. It’s recommended to call ahead to confirm before visiting. They’re open every day except Tuesday, from 9 AM to 6 PM.
